Reclaimed Oak and Steel Bench

We made the original version of this piece for a show at the Bennington Museum in 2010.  The show was titled ‘State of Craft: 50 years of crafts in Vermont’. There is a long blog post describing the design and fabrication process at this link.  It was a four way collaboration between my deceased grandfather, the riveter, myself and my two sons, Sam on the metalwork and Will on the woodwork. A totally fun piece . we hae since made several other versions including this one with a slightly hotter paint job and rebar supports.  there is also one in the sculpture garden at the montshire museum in norwich, vermont. .
