My spindle bed is inspired by the beautiful fanlight windows found above the front doors of many New England homes. The customer it was designed for had seen other spindle beds but was unhappy with the transition between the heavy lower portion of the bed and the light spindle and bow portion. The original bed was made to take a box spring and mattress (supported by angle iron brackets not shown in the photo), but the design can be modified to accept just a mattress on a slatted platform.
