Meet Walt Stanley, a self-taught furniture maker working out of a woodshop in the middle of a Vermont cornfield (yes, really!).

"People don’t believe me when I tell them my woodshop is in the middle of a cornfield, but it’s beautiful, peaceful, and a great place to get inspired." Walt and his wife, Michele, live nearby with their dogs, Trey and Maggie. After years of wearing many hats—from ski instructor to school bus driver—he turned his passion for woodworking into a full-time gig. When he’s not making furniture, you’ll find him out on his bike, clocking in 6-7,000 miles a year.

David Hurwitz designed and made this pair of matching custom carved and painted maple wall mirrors for a wild interior in a home in Texas. The interior designer who ordered the mirrors specified the custom color for the paint. With spline-reinforced miter joints, thick mirror glass, and a choice of custom colors, it’s all about the details.
