Chicago Garden Bench

ShackletonThomas Handmade Furniture & Pottery
of Bridgewater, VT

In 1987, Charles Shackleton designed this bench specifically for the Chicago Botanical Gardens. The botanical garden needed a bench of the English garden bench tradition but distinctive in appearance, comfortable, durable, and handmade in America. Charles devoted a lot of careful thought into the bench and created a design of aesthetic and structural excellence. The botanic garden has since ordered more than 150 of the benches to display throughout their gardens.
