The entire slope is veneered using a traditional hammer veneering technique. Notice the continuous grain wrap around the sides of the case. The outside corners are all edged with brass cornering. Roughly 200 brass pins are installed into the cornering to hold it in place.
Reproduction hardware was used on this piece, almost all of it was cast using the lost wax technique. The inkwells are antique cut glass wells sourced from a dealer in England.
The tiny scallop pulls couldn’t be found anywhere, so I carved a wax carving and had them molded and cast in New York City.
The Kingwood Writing Slope was built using Kingwood, South American Mahogany, Maple, brass, and Tagua nut. It is a reproduction of an antique campaign style slope built in the 1820’s in England.
