This box is made of riftsawn white oak and black walnut. On the top, the lighter colored sap wood defines a narrow gap that is spanned by an inlaid bridge on the outside, and walnut braces on the inside. The lining and the bottom are black walnut.
This piece was inspired by an architectural element in a building designed by Louis Kahn. I loved how he made a bridge to span a divide in a wall, so I incorporated that idea into the top of this box.
