Henderson Sideboard

The accents on the Henderson Sideboard are all made from a walnut tree downed in the 80’s in Thetford, VT. Physical joinery is on display with the sliding dovetail joining the drawer dividers to the uprights.

Inside each door is a set of adjustable solid maple shelves. The primary wood is Hard Maple and the secondary (drawer parts, case back, and internal structure) is made of Tulip Poplar.

A bit of grain matching and board layout went into this piece. The drawer fronts were all taken from one very clean and straight board. The panels on the doors were resawn and bookmatched across the whole piece to create visual balance.

The sideboard is held up by a set of four french feet. To achieve this it requires cutting the leg stock from extra thick wood and shaping them down to create the sweeping effect, which lightens the look and adds visual strength.

The Henderson Sideboard is made from Sugar Maple, Walnut accents, Tulip Poplar secondary and brass hardware. It is finished with first a wash of shellac, followed by boiled linseed oil and finally a half dozen coats of Waterlox varnish.
