The black walnut used in these pieces was magnificent, with its beautiful curl and incredibly rich color.
The blunted corners of the nightstands gives the effect of a column with its capital and plinth.
The drawer sides are made of quarter-sawn white oak which was grown in New Hampshire, the rest of the piece is made from even more local butternut from next door in West Hartford, VT. Single entry dovetails are on display here- no way to make these other than by hand.
The nightstands terminate with a sweeping French foot. The grain is continuous and wraps around the whole piece.
Made of Black Walnut, White Oak, Butternut, and brass. This piece was part of a bedroom set whose design was inspired by one of my favorite furniture designers, Edward Barnsley. It is finished with linseed oil, shellac and wax.
