Pete E. Michelinie

Vermont based furniture maker Pete Michelinie teaches woodworking at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire.
For the time being I am focusing on teaching woodworking at Dartmouth College and will not be taking any orders for custom furniture.
I am happy to suggest other skilled furniture makers and offer my designs.
My name is Pete Michelinie, and I build furniture for a living. It is my goal to create pieces which will be cherished, admired, and passed down for years beyond my own existence. This is why I hold high standards in my execution and attention to detail.
In 2008 I graduated from the renowned furniture making program at The North Bennet Street School with four times the required number of pieces to graduate.

Newport Kneehole Bureau, 36 1/2 ” W x 32 3/4 ” T x 20 ” D
A close replica of an Edmund Townsend bureau made in the late 1700’s, this piece is among my favorites of early American furniture, and it was a joy to have the privilege to measure & photograph the original, then spend a lot of time reproducing it.
Letter Desk, 55 5/8 ” W x 29 ” T x 21 ” D
Made of black walnut and nickel plated copper, this piece was built for myself as a way to learn about bent laminations and apply a few design ideas that I wanted to see.
Clark Bed, 64 1/2 ” W x 83 1/2 ” L x 33 ” T (Queen Size)
One of my most often repeat builds (I believe I’ve made about 20 of them), this bed was originally designed for a friend who wanted a modern bed with hand-done elements. The dovetails connecting the headboard to the braces are cut by hand.
Pie Crust Table, 22 5/8 ” Dia. x 27 ” T
My father had bought a very interesting mahogany board for me, knowing that I could turn it into something special, and this was that attempt. I had never had reason to carve a pie crust table top, and this was a great challenge, given all of the figure of the wood.
Edward’s Dresser, 61 ” W x 38 ” T x 20 ” D
The gently curved front of this piece added a tremendous amount of difficulty to the piece, but a lot of fun and challenge for me.
