Louis Kahn Jewelry Box

Erin Hanley Fine Furniture
of Burlington, VT

This box is made of riftsawn white oak and black walnut.  It was inspired by an architectural element in a building designed by Louis Kahn.  I loved how he made a bridge to span a divide in a wall, so I incorporated that idea into the top of this box.  On the top, the lighter colored sap wood defines a narrow gap that is spanned by an inlaid bridge on the outside, and walnut braces on the inside.  Refined and modern, this is an elegant object.
