This writing desk is just under seven feet long from end to end. The concave curved edge of the top wraps around you when sitting at it. The top is nice and thick (1.75") and has a softly sculpted, wide, rounded-over edge in the area where you sit. This makes for a very comfortable place to lean your arms when sitting at it. This desk is very comfortable to sit at and use. 

The legs are made by a process called stack-lamination, in which five layers of 1.25" thick ash are glued together in a stack to form the rough form of the arches of the legs. David then carves the legs with a combination of hand and power tools, with many, many hours of hand work to achieve the refined sculptural form.

The black walnut top has integral steel reinforcement to keep it flat, since it is cantilevered. The top has a hand rubbed Danish oil finish, to bring out the natural color, warmth and depth of the walnut, and the legs have a hand-rubbed poly-varnish finish, to keep the ash as light as possible. 

This desk was featured in a special issue of Fine Woodworking magazine titled "Furniture: 102 Contemporary Designs", published in October 2008.  It is also featured in the book Fine Woodworking Design Book Eight: Original Furniture from the World's Finest Craftsmen, as well as the book 500 Tables, by Lark Books, both published in 2009.
