Viewing: Custom cherry bed with mother of pearl inlays
This piece is a part of a design exploration that employs abalone, mother-of-pearl, and other jewelry like materials into everyday furniture such as beds, tables, and even jewelry maker's workbenches. Above is a section of a bed headboard we made for a client who belongs to a shooting club on Lake Erie. The basic motif is ducks and cattails, but we have also made pieces using shell motifs ("shell" shell inlays), abstract geometric forms, fish (snook and brook trout), and we've recently finished two bed projects with bear and deer, snowflakes and pine trees. This is a really challenging medium, but it makes us think and be careful, and we like that. You can see many examples on my dorsetcustomfurniture website in the 'beds' section. For larger, clearer and fantastically dramatic close up images, send me an email.
