Irene-to-Art: Journey of a Log from Start to Finish

Inspired by our locally sourced materials blog, Guild Member Charles Ogg of Charles Ogg Furniture and Design shared with us the following pictures showing the journey of a log — from storm victim to table.

The walnut tree was damaged by Hurricane Irene on the land of Charles’ neighbor in Chittenden and needed to be cut down. After being cut down, the tree was loaded onto a local mechanic’s flatbed to be delivered to a nearby farm to be sawn. The log was cured for a time and then turned into a George Nakashima-style table for a client in Chittenden. The wood never left the town of Chittenden from start to finish.
